What in the hell was Dorothy thinking? She obviously didn't ride a motorcycle, because if I lived in Kansas I would either move or sell it. I drove about 200 mile less today and was more tired today from riding the flat, straight roads of western Kansas..
Ear Plugs!!!
I made a pretty bad ass discovery yesterday. Not to long ago I was reading through some motorcycle forums and people were talking about what types of ear plugs they wore. I figured they either had really loud bikes or was really conscious about their hearing. I was getting tired of the wind blowing in my helmet and into my right ear, so I thought what the hell I'll get some ear plugs. You would of thought that you were in a car and windows went up, AMAZING!!! It's quiet, chill, and I can hear my music just enough to enjoy it. I never would had made it as far as I did if I had to deal with that extra element. I tried both of these today. The EarPlanes were great in the beginning but started making my ear sore after a couple hours. I switched to the wax and they were much better. I'll probably stick with those the rest of the trip.
Kansas was okay to start with in the morning. It was pretty chilly and ended staying that way most of the day. I was on a few county roads for the first couple hours which was pretty nice because it was just me and nature. After that it was highways... Seriously the most exhausting ride thus far. I did meet the guy who owns the highways there though. I was just riding along enjoying the endless cows all over the place, when I noticed a car passing a semi-truck. He CLEARLY didn't have enough room to pass him with me coming the other lane. My first thought was "wow this guy owns the place". So I kindly got over into the emergency lane, extended my middle finger, and gave him a friendly honk. This was shortly after I went head to head with a vulture that was eat his breakfast. I didn't actually see how close he got because by the time he was at my windshield, and his wings were extended out as far they could go, my eyes were closed and I was envisioning his breakfast all over my bike. #ExcitingKansas
P.S. Eastern Colorado is no exception either... Flat and straight, but no one tried to run me over.

The western portion of Kansas was nothing but "cow feeds yards". Has anyone heard about these or am I just in the dark when it comes to where our meat comes from? It as insane! These cows were packed into these gated areas like sardines. Half were chowing down (hence the feed part of the name) and the others were just chillin'. How did they even get there or how long do they have to stay? And why aren't they feeding in the pasture with the rest of cows? Where do they go next? I'm really confused on the subject and am scared to ask google. Shouldn't cows have a great life if they are going to end up food for someone else? I like to image the burger I'm eating came from a cow prancing in a pasture somewhere before he died of natural causes. No wonder we have mad cow!!
Here is a picture I found online that looks exactly like the "feeding" grounds.

After endless roads I finally reach Colorado Springs only to find there are no mountains. There is this tiny outline of where the mountains use to be, but apparently someone stole them. I checked into the hotel and the lady explained that the smoke from forest fires in California have reach their side of the Rockies. Deeming them un-view-able. I actually think it was more where the sun was at the time, because I went back out a couple hours later and they reappeared (a little).
My first pizza in Colorado (since I was 9) and it wasn't very good. But! A glass of wine and this pizza was 10 dollars, so there isn't much to be upset about.
I'm back at it tomorrow. If the smoke clears up, I'll ride up Pikes Peak, hit up Garden of the Gods, then down to the Royal Gorge.
I MADE IT TO COLORADO!!!
